Tech gists…
👀 Time to delve into the juiciest tech gossip and latest buzz! 🚀💻 Get ready for the inside scoop on the tech world's hottest news and rumors. Let's spill the tea! ☕️
1. Kippa, a Nigeria fintech, has transferred the operation of its agency banking product, KippaPay, to Bloc.
2. Chipper Cash, the Africa-focused fintech unicorn, has reportedly laid off 15 employees across different departments in its fourth round of layoffs within the past year. The recent job cuts, affecting mostly the US team, come six months after the company eliminated nearly a dozen roles, including its Chief Operating Officer, Alicia Levine.
3. OpenAI released new details of a version of GPT-4, the company’s flagship text-generating AI model, that can understand the context of images as well as text. This version, which OpenAI calls “GPT-4 with vision,” can caption and even interpret relatively complex images — for example identifying a Lightning Cable adapter from a picture of a plugged-in iPhone.
4. Microsoft introduces Azure Quantum, a pioneering platform simplifying quantum app development. It enables running programs across diverse quantum hardware, encompassing Microsoft's and partner systems from Honeywell and IonQ. While in preview, this initiative aims to streamline quantum application creation, empowering developers for smoother deployment.
5. Apple has reportedly begun work on a custom 5G modem for future iPhones. Apple has a history of designing custom components for its devices, including its A-series processors and the M-series chips used in its Macs. It makes sense for Apple to try to take the same approach with 5G modems, especially since cellular connectivity is such a critical part of the iPhone experience.
Now, here's a heads-up for the exciting events coming your way. Stay tuned for our physical monthly community meeting and games night happening every last Friday of the month. It's a perfect blend of knowledge sharing, camaraderie, and some friendly competition. You won't want to miss it!
As we dive into this new year, remember that each day is a fresh opportunity to learn, grow, and make a positive impact. Embrace the challenges, celebrate the victories, and let's make 2024 a year to remember.
Prepare for a year filled with growth, innovation, and unforgettable moments.
Best vibes,
